MEET THE CANDIDATES

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

BACKGROUND

Pursuant to Article II Section A of the By-Laws of the DC Democratic State Committee (DCDSC), Vacancies of At-Large or Add-On Representatives State Committee members shall be filled by a majority vote of the State Committee at a regular meeting provided notice that the vacancy will be filled, has been given no less than seven (7) days prior to the meeting at which such action shall take place.

DATE

  • Nominations will begin on Monday November 8, 2021.

  • The deadline to submit nominations will be 11:59pm on Friday November 19, 2021.

  • The election to fill a vacant At-Large Committeeman position will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021 during the DCDSC General Body Meeting. The meeting will begin at 6:30pm.

QUALIFYING CANDIDATES

  • Candidate must be a registered DC Democrat by November 8, 2021.

  • A candidate must either provide 25 petition signatures of members of the DCDSC or make a $50 donation to the DCDSC to qualify or BOTH. We will notify members on how a candidate qualified.

  • Petition signatures include electronic written, handwritten or type written signatures. Note: Signatures will be verified for validity.

  • Petition signatures or $50 donation are due by 11:59 PM Monday, November 29, 2021. Please send to Claudette David, at executivedirector@dcdemocraticparty.org

LOGISTICS

  • Candidate headshots and bio will be available on the DCDSC website by Tuesday, November 30, 2021 for review.

  • The Election will be conducted by the DCDSC.

  • Ballots will be distributed via Simply Voting to current members of the DCDSC.

  • Only pre-qualified nominations will be accepted.

  • All nominated candidates must be present on the scheduled Zoom platform on Thursday, December 2, 2021. Please send to Claudette David, at executivedirector@dcdemocraticparty.org

RULES FOR THE ELECTION

  • Speaking order will be determined by random drawing.

  • Each candidate will have up to (2) minutes to address the body.

  • Voting will begin immediately after all candidates have been provided equal opportunity to speak.

VOTING & COUNTING

  • DCDSC members will have 2 days after the close of all speeches to cast their ballots via Simply Voting. All ballots must be cast by 5:30 PM December 4, 2021.

  • Ballots will be distributed based on the DCDSC roster. Counting of ballots will be done using  Simple Voting and will be public.

  • The DCDSC will secure and archive the ballots and a record of the election results in accordance with DCDSC and District of  Columbia laws and regulations governing record retention.

CHALLENGES TO THE ELECTION PROCESS

  • Any challenge to the election process must be submitted in written form to the Executive Director at  ExecutiveDirector@DCDemocraticParty.org, not later than 5:00 p.m. on December 7, 2021.

  • The DCDSC Executive Committee will review the challenge and report to the DCDSC members at the next regularly scheduled meeting, and the matter shall be determined by majority vote of DCDSC members present and voting.
